Hospice Atlanta has been involved with the collaborative project We Honor Veterans since 2015, a partnership through the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the Veterans Administration. Our charge is to determine if our hospice patients have military backgrounds, help our veteran patients navigate their eligible VA benefits, provide education for staff on veteran care, and offer the patient recognition for their service.

For the 20th consecutive year, Visiting Nurse Health System was awarded The Atlanta Regional Commission’s contract for the Community Care Services Program (CCSP). Facilitated by the Long-Term Care at Home program of Visiting Nurse, this Medicaid waiver program helps seniors and individuals with disabilities receive community-based social, health and support services. Dorothy Davis, Executive Director of Long-Term Care at Home and Vice President of Community Services and Strategy, shared an overview of the program and how it improves the lives of those it serves.

No one wants to consider being incapable of making their own healthcare decisions, but it’s important to reflect on these issues BEFORE a crisis. Doing this ahead of time makes it easier for loved ones who are faced with making tough decisions on your behalf. An advance directive, or living will, is a written record of your wishes concerning medical care, if you become incapacitated.
