Vice President Joe Biden Speaks at Visiting Nurse’s 70th Anniversary Luncheon benefiting Hospice Atlanta

Vice President Joe Biden was the special guest speaker at Visiting Nurse Health System’s 2018 Spring Luncheon held Thursday, May 17, at The Whitley Hotel in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood. More than 375 supporters, community members, partners and nursing professionals attended the event which raised funds for patients in the care of Hospice Atlanta.

Mr. Biden’s moving speech shared his personal story about the loss of life in his family and how hospice care was a comforting presence during those difficult days for him and his family members. He made special note to praise the work of Hospice Atlanta nurses, asking those RNs in the room to stand while he thanked them and recognized them for their dedication, adding, “You’re the most underrated profession in all the world.”

We've had a great day honoring our Veteran hospice patients for their courage, service, and connection. Our Veteran Volunteer retired Navy Captain Alan, traveled around to our patients’ homes today, honoring their service with a We Honor Veterans pinning event. A few of our patients honored today are shown here: Duane, an Air Force pilot, and later a commercial pilot, with a flawless 30-year flying record, and Edward “Ted,” a Navy veteran and centenarian honored at age 102.
Alan, our Volunteer and a retired Navy Captain who served aboard the USS Long Beach during the Vietnam War, has spent over 15 years giving back to fellow veterans through visits and veteran pinning ceremonies. Through these events, Alan brings honor, understanding, recognition, and the unique bond that only a fellow service member can share.
