Camp STARS Volunteer Raised $47,000 for Camp STARS by Hosting a Charity Golf Tournament

July 9, 2019 (Atlanta, GA) – Today Visiting Nurse | Hospice Atlanta’s Camp STARS program is slated to receive a donation check from the Cardinal Rock Charitable Foundation in the amount of $47,000. These funds were directly raised to support Visiting Nurse | Hospice Atlanta’s Camp STARS program (Sharing Together As Real Support) bereavement camp.

The donation check ceremony will take place at 12pm today, July 9, 2019, at Visiting Nurse | Hospice Atlanta’s Dunwoody office. Chris Cosenza, Chairman of the Cardinal Rock Charitable Foundation and President of Brookhaven Wealth Management, will be onsite to present the net proceeds, totaling $47,000. The fundraising golf event, the Brookhaven Wealth Management Charity Golf Classic & Fundraiser, was hosted by the Cardinal Rock Charitable Foundation on April 16, 2019. Receiving the donation will be Visiting Nurse | Hospice Atlanta’s President and CEO, Dorothy Davis, alongside Barbara Moore, Manager of Hospice Atlanta’s Volunteer/Support Services, and Director of Camp STARS, Deana Porter.

“On behalf of Visiting Nurse | Hospice Atlanta, we would like to thank Mr. Chris Cosenza and the Cardinal Rock Charitable Foundation for this very generous donation and for a both successful and exciting 1st annual fundraising golf tournament,” stated Visiting Nurse | Hospice Atlanta’s President and CEO, Dorothy Davis. “It is through the passion of people and partnerships like we share with Chris Cosenza, and the Cardinal Rock Charitable Foundation, that Hospice Atlanta continues to remain in a strong position to successfully serve our Georgia community,” continues Davis. “Proudly, Hospice Atlanta remains to be Georgia’s largest and oldest hospice organization to serve both pediatric and adult hospice patients in their homes.”

As spokesperson for Cardinal Rock Charitable Foundation, Chris Cosenza shares his passion fueling his successful fundraising efforts on behalf of Camp STARS. “We’ve all lost loved ones.  Having lost my father (he was 30 years old) to Leukemia when I was 5 years old, and having experienced the challenges that a death can place on a young family, as well as my having been a counselor at Camp STARS for nearly 8 years now, I can attest to the incredibly positive impact Camp STARS has had on the families, adults, and especially the children,” states Cosenza. With his foundation having nearly doubled its’ fundraising goals for this event, he continues “I am very grateful for the support of our sponsors, volunteers, family and friends who have helped make this successful event possible. We look forward to next year’s event and will announce details later this Summer.”

 Camp STARS is a program of Hospice Atlanta.  Camp STARS is Georgia’s first-ever bereavement camp, founded in 1994. It is a three-day camp held on a gorgeous 300-acre campus at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, GA, where individuals can feel the peace and safety of expressing their emotions with others who are in a similar situation and share many of the same strong feelings. Staffed by experienced, nurturing counselors, social workers, chaplains and trained volunteers, Camp STARS participants are guided through the grieving process. It’s a chance for grieving individuals to let go for the weekend, bond with family members, make new friends and face sorrow together. In 2018, Hospice Atlanta launched Camp STARS InTown, a one-day camp designed specifically to serve our in-town communities that are unable attend a 3-day camp.
