Visiting Nurse Health System’s Home Health Awarded CHAP Accreditation

ATLANTA, GA   JULY 15, 2024 — Community Health Accreditation Partner, Inc., (CHAP) announced that Visiting Nurse Health System’s (VNHS) Home Health division has been awarded CHAP Accreditation under the CHAP Home Health Standards of Excellence. By achieving CHAP Accreditation, VNHS’ Home Health has been deemed to meet the Medicare Conditions of Participation and is certified as a Medicare provider and demonstrates that VNHS Home Health meets the industry’s highest nationally recognized standards.

The rigorous evaluation by CHAP focuses on structure and function, quality of services and products, human and financial resources, and long-term viability. Simply stated, adherence to CHAP’s standards leads to better quality care. “By achieving CHAP Accreditation, Visiting Nurse Health System’s Home Health has shown a commitment to excellence,” said Nathan DeGodt, CHAP President and CEO. “We are excited to begin our partnership with Hospice Atlanta by offering support in its commitment to providing quality care and continuous improvement.”

“After 75 years of caring for Georgians in their homes, receiving this prestigious accreditation is a testament to our dedication to bringing high-quality, home health services to our patients,” states Dorothy Davis, President and CEO of Visiting Nurse Health System. “The hard work and commitment of our entire team is unwavering, ensuring our patients receive the best possible care in the comfort of their own homes. We will continue to uphold the highest standards of excellence and continue serving our mission as we continue to strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.”

Founded in 1948, Visiting Nurse Health System is Georgia’s solution for healthcare and aging at home. Visiting Nurse is Georgia’s first and largest nonprofit provider of healthcare in the home, with Hospice Atlanta being the first hospice in the state of Georgia. Celebrating 75 years of service, Visiting Nurse continues to live its mission today, improving lives and positively impacting the well-being of patients, families, and communities, including the largest low-income senior population. The organization proudly serves 57 counties, approximately 15,000 patients, and providing 8,800 charitable care visits each year. For more information, visit www.vnhs.org.

CHAP is an independent, not-for-profit, accrediting body for community-based health care organizations. Created in 1965, CHAP was the first to recognize the need and value for accreditation in community-based care. CHAP is the oldest national, community-based accrediting body with more than 9,000 agencies currently accredited nationwide. Through “deeming authority” granted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), CHAP has the regulatory authority to survey agencies providing home health, hospice and home medical equipment services to determine if they meet the Medicare Conditions of Participation and CMS Quality Standards. CHAP’s purpose is to define and advance the highest standards of community-based care.

We've had a great day honoring our Veteran hospice patients for their courage, service, and connection. Our Veteran Volunteer retired Navy Captain Alan, traveled around to our patients’ homes today, honoring their service with a We Honor Veterans pinning event. A few of our patients honored today are shown here: Duane, an Air Force pilot, and later a commercial pilot, with a flawless 30-year flying record, and Edward “Ted,” a Navy veteran and centenarian honored at age 102.
Alan, our Volunteer and a retired Navy Captain who served aboard the USS Long Beach during the Vietnam War, has spent over 15 years giving back to fellow veterans through visits and veteran pinning ceremonies. Through these events, Alan brings honor, understanding, recognition, and the unique bond that only a fellow service member can share.

Visiting Nurse loves celebrating Our Amazing Home Health PTs and PTAs!

October is Physical Therapy Month, and our Home Health leader Jacqueline Ralph Blair brought the team together for a fun evening of bowling to celebrate the incredible work they bring into homes every day. This celebration was a small way to say thank you for the big impact they make in people’s lives.

In these times, connection and appreciation mean more than ever — and it was wonderful to spend time together as a team. 💙
