Visiting Nurse Health System’s Hospice Atlanta Awarded CHAP Accreditation

ATLANTA, GA JULY 12, 2024 — Community Health Accreditation Partner, Inc., (CHAP) announced that Visiting Nurse Health System’s Hospice Atlanta has been awarded CHAP Accreditation under the CHAP Hospice Services Standards of Excellence on July 2. By achieving CHAP Accreditation, Hospice Atlanta has been deemed to meet the Medicare Conditions of Participation and is certified as a Medicare provider. CHAP Accreditation demonstrates that Hospice Atlanta meets the industry’s highest nationally recognized standards.

The rigorous evaluation by CHAP focuses on structure and function, quality of services and products, human and financial resources, and long-term viability. Simply stated, adherence to CHAP’s standards leads to better quality care. “By achieving CHAP Accreditation, Hospice Atlanta has shown a commitment to excellence,” said Nathan DeGodt, CHAP President and CEO. “We are excited to begin our partnership with Hospice Atlanta by offering support in its commitment to providing quality care and continuous improvement.”

“We are incredibly honored to receive this prestigious accreditation, which underscores our unwavering commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care to our patients and their families,” said Dorothy Davis, President and CEO of Visiting Nurse Health System. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team, who go above and beyond every day to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care in the comfort of their own homes. We will continue to uphold the highest standards of excellence and continue serving our mission as we continue to strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.”

Founded in 1948, Visiting Nurse Health System is Georgia’s solution for healthcare and aging at home. Visiting Nurse is Georgia’s first and largest nonprofit provider of healthcare in the home, with Hospice Atlanta being the first hospice in the state of Georgia. Celebrating 75 years of service, Visiting Nurse continues to live its mission today, improving lives and positively impacting the well-being of patients, families, and communities, including the largest low-income senior population. The organization proudly serves 57 counties, approximately 15,000 patients, and providing 8,800 charitable care visits each year. For more information, visit www.vnhs.org.

CHAP is an independent, not-for-profit, accrediting body for community-based health care organizations. Created in 1965, CHAP was the first to recognize the need and value for accreditation in community-based care. CHAP is the oldest national, community-based accrediting body with more than 9,000 agencies currently accredited nationwide. Through “deeming authority” granted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), CHAP has the regulatory authority to survey agencies providing home health, hospice and home medical equipment services to determine if they meet the Medicare Conditions of Participation and CMS Quality Standards. CHAP’s purpose is to define and advance the highest standards of community-based care.

Today we pause to honor Juneteenth - a powerful reminder of resilience, freedom, and the continued pursuit of equity. Having provided care into the homes of Georgians for 76 years, our mission is rooted in the belief that each individual deserves equal access to quality health care.
