Ways You Can Make A Difference

Direct Patient Volunteers

  • Visit with patients and families in their homes
Volunteers go into the homes of our patients, clients and members, and spend time with them, doing a variety of activities, with the most important being spending time with the patient. Whether it is listening to their stories, enjoying their favorite movie or music, reading a story, it is about being a friend on their journey and provide a comforting presence.
  • Family Respite Support
Family care giving is an exhausting job.  Our valuable volunteers provide Respite Support by sitting with our patient while their care giver takes a much-needed break.  Whether they go run the errands they are unable to do, or simply rest, our volunteers provide the caregiver respite, and welcomed companionship to our patient.
  • Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteer Visits
As a proud partner with the national program, We Honor Veterans, Hospice Atlanta is committed to providing end-of-life care that meets the unique needs of our Nation’s Veterans and their families. Through this program, veterans dedicate their time to visiting the Veterans that are in our services, to share stories together, visiting as together, as  companions who have also served.  The patients are given a pin in honor of their service to our country.
  • Pet Peace of Mind Program
Help our hospice patients and their furry friends by playing or walking them on a visit.  Your support helps our patients be able to have their pets stay together during this time of need, in the place they call home.  We are also participate in the national program Pet Peace of Mind. Through this program and your support, we are able to provide services such as pet sitting, picking up and delivering food and supplies, changing the litter box, and dogs for walks.

In-Direct Patient Volunteers

  • Administrative Support for Patient Care
Preparing all that’s needed for our clinicians to provide quality care to patients is a busy job! Our administrative support volunteers are always needed! These volunteer jobs are office-based and provide the much-needed project support like patient correspondence, preparing patient documentation for home visits and much more.
  • Bereavement Department Support for Loved Ones
These volunteers support our bereavement department with communication with the bereaved families and loved ones.  Ranging from correspondence through mailings, phone calls to loved ones, and participating in support services after a patient has died, these volunteer services are so valuable to our bereaved community.
  • Annual Bereavement Camp Volunteers
Camp STARS, a bereavement camp for families held at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, GA, is offered two weekends a year to our bereaved community.  This camp provides a safe environment for children and adults to share their feelings and learn how to grieve in an emotionally healthy way, while having fun and connecting exactly where they are in their grief process.  Volunteers make this weekend special to our bereaved families, by volunteering for all stages of a camp weekend!  From helping get settled into their cabins, to assisting with all sorts of fun camp activities.
  • Support Our Community Education Program: Speaker’s Bureau
We have an educational series focused on key healthcare topics for our community organizations, including senior centers, doctors’ offices, clubs, civic groups or houses of worship.
  • Event Team Support
Our volunteers help us support our hardworking caregivers, at company-sponsored employee appreciation events. Support our event team with your event planning talents, resources and relationships to help grow our mission!
  • Patient Care Packages
